Elkhorn wrestlers win Craig Invitational

JANESVILLE — Thanks to four individual champions, Elkhorn High’s wrestling team won the Craig Invitational here Saturday.

The Elks finished with 206 points to win the eight-team tournament, while Oregon was second with 197.5. The host Cougars were fifth with 138 and had one champion with Chris Pierce capturing the 125-pound title.

In the featured match, unbeaten Ryan Slack of Elkhorn edged previously unbeaten Siven Furseth of Craig for the 119-pound title. Slack, a junior who won the prestigious Mid-States title last week in Whitewater, beat Furseth 8-6 in overtime in the championship match.

Slack improved to 15-0 on the season while Furseth fell to 19-1.

Other champions for Elkhorn were Taylor French at 112, Tim Durkin at 135 and Donte Blackburn at 215.
