Edgerton's final spurt trips Evansville

— Edgerton High’s boys basketball team broke out of a five-game losing streak in big way Friday night.

The Crimson Tide jumped off to an early lead, then came from behind at the end to edge Evansville, 49-44, in a Rock Valley North regular-season finale on the Blue Devils’ court.


Edgerton took a 38-34 lead into the fourth quarter. After falling behind, the Crimson Tide regained the lead for good at 45-44 on a Bryan Gregory basket.


Brek Perry’s two free throws gave the Tide a 48-45 edge with nine seconds left. Gregory then stole the in-bounds pass and made two free throws with 1.7 seconds left to complete Edgerton’s two-game sweep of its regular-season series against the Blue Devils.


Gregory, the conference scoring champion, finished with 21 points. Andrew Keister and Jesse Deininger scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Evansville.


Evansville finished second in the Rock Valley Norh at 12-4 and Edgerton tied for third at 10-6. Both teams are 14-6 overall and could meet again in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game Thursday at Evansville.

n East Troy 64, Whitewater 63—Dan Douglas hit a three-point shot with no time remaining to give champion East Troy a victory over visiting Whitewater in a Rock Valley North finale.


The Trojans (15-5, 15-1) also rallied from a 51-46 deficit in the fourth quarter.


Douglas and Mitch Windle each scored 18 points for East Troy. Miles Hookstead had a game-high 28 for the Whippets (12-8, 10-6).

n McFarland 67, Jefferson 59—Lucas Schmitz scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half to help lift the Spartans to victory in a Rock Valley North regular-season finale.


McFarland (11-9, 8-8) gained an 18-9 first-quarter lead and rolled to the victory. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans made 9 of 10 free throws, Marques Eversoll scored all seven of his points, and Aaron Dixon scored nine of his game-high 24 to seal the deal.


Trevor Probst scored 18 points for Jefferson (7-13, 6-10), while A.J. Neils added 11.

n Brodhead 51, Palmyra-Eagle 41—The Rock South champion Cardinals (13-7, 10-6) took a 15-2 first-quarter lead and rolled to the victory in a regular-season finale.


J.J. Panoske scored a game-high 19 points for Brodhead, while teammate Jacob Cole added 15. Robb Guthrie scored 11 points for Palmyra-Eagle (2-18, 0-16).

n Big Foot 59, Clinton 46—Walworth Big Foot (12-8, 9-7) locked up second place in the Rock Valley South by beating the host Cougars (5-15, 3-13) in a regular-season finale.


The Chiefs grabbed a 13-8 first-quarter lead and extended to 13 points through the first three periods.


Alec McGreevy and Mike Kunes led Big Foot’s balanced attack with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Clinton’s Austin DeLong was the game leader with 17.
