Technology has become such an important element in modern law enforcement, this year's Janesville Police Department "Officer of the Year" is being recognized for his work with the department's computerized systems.

During ceremonies at the police department Tuesday night, Officer Steve Carpenter was recognized for his work in helping officers more quickly react to situations thanks in part to speedy and up to date information on their laptops.

Also honored were Sergeant Rick Larson with the award of excellence, and Alicia Heitsman as civilian employee of the year.
