Things went about as planned at Saturday’s Big Eight Conference girls gymnastics meet.

Dual meet champion Middleton made it a clean sweep by winning the conference meet with a score of 138.4.

Janesville Craig, second in the duals, finished second Saturday with a score season-high of 132.5 while Janesville Parker was third with 129.425.

Craig High freshman Becky Schneider won the vault (9.15) and finished third in the all-around (35.5)

“For a freshman to come in and win a conference championship is pretty impressive,” Craig High coach Jean Welch said of Schneider.

Schneider was also second on the floor exercise, and tied for third with Janesville Parker’s Erika Whitson on the uneven bars.

Whitson, a sophomore, won the floor exercise (9.4) and was second in the all-around (35.825). Whitson won the balance beam as a freshman.

“Erika had a strong day, and Emily Mauermann performed well, too.,” Parker coach Kathy Lehmann said. “I’m really happy with the way the young ladies have come together.”

Craig and Parker begin WIAA tournament competition Thursday night in the Division 1 Waterford Sectional. The top two teams as well as the top five individuals in each event, qualify for state.
