Craig comes up short at Sun Prairie

— Janesville Craig’s Brad Cagney made the shot of the night, but Michael Boos and Sun Prairie High School took the spotlight in a 63-61 victory over Craig in Big Eight Conference boys basketball here Saturday.

Boos scored a game-high 26 points, making four straight free throws down the stretch in the fourth quarter to boost the Cardinals (8-11, 6-11 Big Eight).


Craig (9-10, 8-9) trailed 46-44 after three quarters, but went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter to take a 53-46 lead.


Sun Prairie climbed back as Sam Marshall scored nine of his 17 points, and the Cards went 8-for-9 from the foul line.


Sun Prairie went 12-for-16 from the line for the game, while Craig went 6-for-11. Craig was whistled for 18 fouls to 12 for Sun Prairie.


With just more than a second remaining, and Sun Prairie ahead 63-58, Cagney made a three-point shot from half court to pull Craig to the final margin.


Craig trailed Sun Prairie, 29-27, at the half, despite Boos’ 17-point first-half performance.


The Cougars’ Kyle Goike scored 18 points, A.J. Fredricks added 17, and Cagney chipped in 10 points. Jordan Noskowiak added 10 points for Sun Prairie.


Craig will host Verona at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to conclude the regular Big Eight Conference season.

n Edgewood 50, Stoughton 47—Patrick Lagman scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, as Madison Edgewood struggled to beat Stoughton in a Badger South game Saturday night.


Derek Braucht added 13 points for the Crusaders (9-2, 14-4).


Jake Thiermann had 12 points for the Vikings (7-5, 9-10). Stoughton hit a three-pointer to get within a point with less than a second left, but had to foul. Edgewood made two free throws for the final margin.
