Beloit teachers refuse to renegotiate contract
Beloit teachers plan to hold the school board to the current contract.
The school board had asked to reopen the contract in the hopes of renegotiating salary and benefits next year. Beloit Education Association President Tim Vedra says the union has little interest in renegotiating, and turned down the board's offer. Vedra says reopening an already agreed to contract could be demoralizing for teachers. Vedra says the current wage levels are needed to help the district's remain competitive.
Vedra says the BEA has offered to investigate other budget saving measures, including program cuts, and reorganizing the district's central administration.
