Janesville Parker High School’s girls basketball team will be in a familiar position when WIAA Division 1 tournament play tips off next week.

The Vikings (15-4), who play Middleton for at least a share of the Big Eight championship in a regular-season finale Thursday, again received a No. 1 sectional seed on Sunday and will have a first-round regional bye on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Parker’s first tournament game will be a regional final at home on Saturday, Feb. 28, against the winner between ninth-seeded Milton (5-13) and eighth-seeded Kenosha Bradford (5-11), who meet in a Feb. 24 opener at Kenosha.

It’s part of a sectional to be hosted by Lake Geneva Badger and played March 6-7 at Beloit College.

Parker is in the sectional’s upper bracket. The bracket’s other first-round regional games on Feb. 24 have No. 12 Stoughton (2-16) at No. 5 Elkhorn (10-8), and No. 13 Beloit Memorial (1-18) at No. 4 Badger (13-6).

Janesville Craig (6-13) is a No. 6 seed and in the lower bracket. The Cougars open at home Feb. 24 against No. 11 Kenosha Tremper (2-15) and would play No. 3 Oregon (14-5) or No. 14 Wilmot (1-15) in the Feb. 28 regional finals.

Second-seeded Verona (15-4), which won the sectional last year, receives a first-round bye in the lower bracket. The Wildcats, who share the Big Eight lead with Parker and Middleton, will open at home against No. 7 Burlington (8-10) or No. 10 Westosha Central (4-14) in the Feb. 28 regional finals.

If the highest seeds advance, Parker would play Badger in the 6 p.m. sectional semifinal game on Friday, March 6, and Verona would face Oregon at 8. The Saturday, March 6, title game would be a rematch of last year’s sectional final between Verona and Parker, who split two Big Eight meetings this season.
