— SSI Technologies has temporarily laid off about 40 employees over the last several weeks, said Senior Vice President Bruce Corner.

The cuts came to the Sintered Specialties Division, which primarily supplies automotive parts, Corner said.

Corner said he is optimistic the lay-offs will be for a short time only.

“We can’t predict how long, but we’re optimistic, we’re hopeful, that we’re at the bottom of the cycle right now,” Corner said. “Hopefully we’ll be bringing them back over the next several months.”

The Controls Technology Division, which provides sensors for non-automotive industries, remains stable, Corner said. SSI anticipates growth in that division over the next 12 months, he said.

SSI employs just fewer than 300 people at two Janesville plants.

I work at a hospital & I KNOW I'm not getting laid off. Can't stop people from getting sick. Even if they have no insurance some people still NEED to be there or they will die. Health care is the way to go right now.

No they didn't escort the workers to the door at least not at sintered. I know many people at sintered and it is completely different then controls. Not sure why any of these comments would reference the controls division because this article is mostly about the sintered division. As far as the ABS production you can blame your new owners (Bourns) for that. Last of all if you can find a job right now where you aren't at risk of lay-offs I'd like to know where that might be. Don't blame the companies, blame the economy which includes us the (consumer) which are the same people that thought it was a great idea to bring good ole Bush to office for 8 years.

phlurky~You must have worked in the Controls division because in the Sintered Division they don't wear white lab coats. If they did they would end up black!

What lawsuits, Rooster?

Last I knew, getting laid off was not grounds for a lawsuit

I wonder if they escorted their laid off employees out the door?
