Craig gymnasts earn season high score

The Janesville Craig High girls gymnastics team turned in its best performance of the season Saturday at the Mukwonago Invitational.

The Cougars had a season-best score 132.45 to finish fourth in the eight-team field.

Milton, behind all-around champion Carleigh Felstead, finished sixth with 131 and was the only Division 2 team in the invite. The co-op team of Franklin/Muskego/Whitnall/Oak Creek won the invite with 140.65.

Freshman Becky Schneider led the Cougars with a fourth-place finish in the all-around and a third-place finish on the floor exercise.

“We had a really good day,” Craig High coach Jean Welch said of her team. “We started on (uneven) bars and performed pretty well. A couple of kids landed some stuff on the bars that they haven’t before, which is a good sign that we’re improving.

“This a great meet for us to end the regular season with because there are so many good teams and gymnasts competing. Now, we can get ready for the (Big Eight) conference meet.”

Felstead won the uneven bars with a score of 9.65 and the all-around with a score of 36.85.

“Carleigh is finally putting everything together,” Milton coach Christina Farnsworth. “As a team, we were missing a couple of kids because of show choir, so we didn’t do as well as I had hoped.”
