Beloit College upsets Carroll

— Beloit College fought hard and was rewarded with its second Midwest Conference men’s basketball victory of the season—an 86-78 upset of Carroll University in double overtime here Wednesday night.

The win snapped Beloit’s 11-game losing streak, while boosting Beloit 2-12 in the conference and 4-17 overall.

The Bucs overwhelmed the Pioneers 20-12 in the second overtime. Edgerton High graduate Travis Towns scored 10 of his 16 points to lead the Bucs.

Beloit’s Michael Horton sank a three-point goal with less than two seconds remaining to send the game into the second OT.

Beloit led 58-55 in regulation, but Carroll’s Kyle Jones sank a three-point shot at the buzzer to force the first overtime.

The Bucs had the edge from the foul line, making 29 of 36 attempts, while the Pioneers converted 19 of 31 free throws.

Parkview graduate Andy Horton scored game-high 28 points for Beloit, including an 11-for-12 effort from the foul line. Patrick Kenny added 12 points before fouling out.

John Hoch scored 22 points to lead three Pioneers (14-7, 10-4) in double figures.

Beloit concludes its home season by hosting Ripon at 4 p.m. Saturday. Seniors Andy Horton and Sal Crivello will play their last home game.
