— Middleton High School turned the tables on the Janesville Bluebirds in Big Eight Conference hockey here Tuesday.

The Cardinals downed the Bluebirds, 5-1, to avenge a 5-1 loss to Janesville last month.

The loss dropped Janesville to 9-3 in the Big Eight and 13-5 overall. Middleton improved to 8-3-1 and 12-5-1.

“We thought we’d be in this game,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said.

But Todd Koritzinsky scored off a power play at 7:05 of the first period, and Alex Koritzinsky scored at 11:19 of the second period to put Middleton ahead 2-0.

“The second goal was a wrap-around from behind the net,” Mauermann said. “That’s not a good goal on our part to give up, and things just didn’t work out our way.’’

Middleton scored three straight goals in the third period before Craig senior Sly Flynn found the net for Janesville at 12:03 on an assist from Parker junior Ryan Shelton.

The Bluebirds host the Madison Eastside Lakers at 8 p.m. Thursday in makeup game at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.
