UW-Rock County ends regular season with a thriller

UW-Rock County concluded its regular season winning a 79-77 thriller over host UW-Fox Valley in nonconference men’s basketball Monday.

The Rattlers led by as many as 14 points, but Fox Valley stormed back to take the lead with two minutes to play. UW-Rock tied it in the final minute, but with eight second remaining Corey Kramer made a driving off-balance layup to give the Rattlers the victory.

Mario Selph scored a game-high 28 points for UW-Rock. Brian Bland added 11 points and Matt Hilt chipped in 10 points.

The Rattlers (11-12) will host UW-Richland in the first-round of the Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association tournament at 6 p.m. next Monday.

UW-Rock women fall

UW-Rock County lost 61-59 to UW-Fox Valley in nonconference women’s basketball to close the regular season Monday at Fox Valley.

Fox Valley overcame a 34-28 first half deficit early in the second half and led the rest of the way. The Rattlers had a chance to tie in the final seconds, but Kaylyn Sherrod’s 12 footer rimmed the basket.

Sherrod finished with 21 points and teammate Tiffany Draeving added 14 points.

The Rattlers (9-13) will host UW-Fond du Lac in a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference tournament play-in game Wednesday at 6 p.m.
