Unemployed workers need to stay connected

Finding yourself unemployed can cause more than economic problems.

Michaela Voeck is a counselor intern with Genesis Counseling Services of Janesville. Voeck says it sometimes helps for displaced workers to connect with others suffering through similar circumstances. She says the workplace is often a social center, and that connection is lost with the job. She says unemployed workers can often learn from others in similar circumstances, particularly how to best use all the newly acquired spare time. Voeck also suggests the option of using any remaining health benefits for psychological support if needed.

Genesis Counseling Services is offering a free support group to unemployed workers while space is available.
