— The cause of a barn fire in rural Newark Township Monday morning is listed as "undetermined."

Orfordville Fire Department, Captain Mike Landis, says the damage estimate is $25,000. 19 young goats perished in the fire, while several beef cattle were not hurt. No other injuries were reported.

Landis says the medium sized barn was fully engulfed in fire when they arrived at 7715 S. County Highway H shortly after 5:30 am. A nearby corn crib and residence were saved from damage in part because the wind was blowing the fire in the opposite direction.

Orfordville received mutual aid from the Towns of Beloit and Shirland and Footville fire departments.
