Authorities blame a quick thaw for a weekend snowmobile accident that sent an Evansville man to the hospital.

Rock County Sheriff's officials say 28-year-old Allen Schultz of Evansville and 27-year-old Daniel Merrit of Janesville were driving their snowmobiles on the ice of Lake Koshkonong Saturday night when Schultz broke through a weak spot. His snowmobile was partially submerged in three feet of water. He called 911 and was rescued by Milton EMS and Rock County deputies using the Sheriff's airboat.

He was treated and released from Mercy Hospital.
