Elkhorn High passed the first test Thursday night in what the Elks hope is a two-step climb this week to the top of the Southern Lakes girls basketball race.

Kasey Reeves and Ashlyn Anderson led the way with 26 and 20 points, respectively, as Elkhorn stayed a half-game behind co-leaders Delavan-Darien and Union Grove with an impressive 67-57 victory over visiting Waterford.

In handing the Wolverines (9-6, 5-4) their fourth straight conference loss, Elkhorn (9-6) improved to 6-2 in the Southern Lakes. The Elks can tie Delavan-Darien (7-2) for first place by beating Union Grove (7-2) at home Saturday night.

Elkhorn led all the way against Waterford, but Brianna Entwistle helped break open a close game by hitting a three-point shot at the end of the first half to put her team up 32-26. After the Elks took a 46-39 lead into the fourth quarter, Anderson and Reeves added the finishes touches by scoring 10 and nine points, respectively, in the final period.

Reeves made seven of eight free throws in the fourth quarter and 10 of 13 overall. Stephanie Rank led Waterford with 16 points.

n Delavan-Darien 66, Wilmot 43—Courtney Flood scored all 14 of her points in the first quarter as the Comets (14-2, 7-2) blitzed the Panthers (1-12, 1-8) with a 27-10 run in the opening eight minutes.

Alana Cesarz had 17 points and 10 rebounds for defending champion Delavan-Darien, which remained tied with Union Grove for the Southern Lakes lead. Hannah Brown added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Comets.

Brianna John led Wilmot with 13 points. Erin Wilson added 12.

n Union Grove 48, Westosha 28—Union Grove outscored Westosha Central (3-13, 0-8) in every quarter as the Broncos (10-4, 7-2) kept their share of the Southern Lakes lead.

The Broncos shut out Christina Brinkman, the conference scoring leader with a 19.6 average. Ayssa Thomas led Union rove (6-2) with 20 points.
