Curlers meet here for Senior Nationals
JANESVILLE The Black Hawk Curling Club of Janesville will host the United States Women’s Curling Association Senior Women’s National Championships tonight through Saturday.
Curling begins at 8 o’clock tonight.
The five-team national championship bonspiel will feature 20 senior women curlers from throughout the United States. The winner will advance to the Senior Women’s World Championships in New Zealand in May.
Janesville native and Black Hawk member Nancy Wilhelm will curl for the Stephens team.
“This is the first time I tried to make USCA Worlds,” said Wilhelm. “We think we have a good chance otherwise we wouldn’t be here.”
Wilhelm said she has known her teammates for years, but they only curled as a team in a bonspiel last week.
“We know each other’s strategies and style,” Wilhelm said.
Friday and Saturday’s matches will be at 1 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 10 p.m. Tie breakers will be held Sunday at 9 a.m. and noon and 2 and 5 p.m., only if they are necessary.
The Black Hawk Curling Club is located inside the Rock County Fair grounds.
