WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the expansion of services by the U-W Whitewater Small Business Development Center
BELOIT A three year, $450,000 grant from the U-S Department of Commerce and Economic Development Agency is helping to bring professional business consulting services to Beloit.
Amy Loudenbeck, with the Beloit Chamber of Commerce, says it takes industry and small business to sustain the area.
Director of the Small Business Development Center at U-W Whitewater, Ronald "Bud" Gayhart, can help people with questions about starting up a new operation or how to sustain an existing business during tough economic times.
Loudenbeck says the services will be offered on Wednesdays, by appointment, at the "Vision Beloit" Center at 500 Public Avenue. The services are already supplied in the Janesville area.

So for three years appointments are available on Wednesdays...lets see, that's $150,000 per year and there are 52 Wednesdays, so that is $2884.62 per Wednesday. Not bad pay. I'll take it.

I don't get it. What is the money for? The professor's time, rental space, the actual consultation? And, who will be providing the consultation? If they've been doing this in Janesville, what are some examples of success, and how is success measured?
