A Beloit teen is sentenced on a reckless homicide charge one year to the day after the fatal shooting.
19-year-old Carlos Salas was sentenced in Rock County Court Wednesday to 20 years in prison and 20 years extended supervision. On February 4, 2008, police found 17-year-old Fernando Berrios-Linarez lying on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound near Keeler and Dewey Avenues in Beloit. He later died of the wound, which went through his heart. At the time, Salas denied having a gun and denied shooting anyone. He later admitted he fired a gun at Berrios-Linarez to scare him.
