— Police this morning continued investigating a fight in which a man was beaten with a baseball bat.

Noe Ayala, 34, of 1403 Church St., Janesville, and a second man are accused of attacking Crescencio Mejia, 30, of 333 N. Pine St., Janesville, with a baseball bat and knife after an argument at 1:06 a.m. Sunday, according to a criminal complaint.

Ayala was arrested on a charge of second-degree reckless endangerment, according to police reports, and the second man has not been arrested.

Several friends were at Mejia’s home having drinks when Ayala was asked to leave for making disrespectful comments, according to the criminal complaint.

About fifteen minutes later, Ayala and a second man returned with a baseball bat, knife and golf club, according to the criminal complaint.

Ayala lunged at Mejia with a knife, but he was unable to stab him, according to the criminal complaint.

The second man then hit Mejia in the head with a metal bat three or four times, according to the criminal complaint.

Mejia was treated at Mercy Hospital and released. His head injury required four staples to close, according to the criminal complaint.

Ayala was ordered held in the Rock County Jail on $1,500 cash bond after appearing in Rock County Court on Monday.

He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 9 for a preliminary hearing.

marymac4 Okay, first of all it all happened outside not in the house and yes I was there I was outside when it happened I was the one that ended up with blood on my shirt because of the gash on the victims FOREHEAD not the back of his head, so maybe you should get it straight before you open your mouth about something you know nothing at all about except for what you have heard. Also it was a golf club because I watched it happen. Why are you people so gullible and believe everything you hear over a scanner. I was with the witnesses and none of us even know the people that were fighting and none of us were disoriented and we watched the entire thing. SO, GET IT STRAIGHT, and don't talk about things you know nothing about. It makes you look just a tiny bit ignorant don't you think?

sarac were you there? were you in the house? did you see the second person? why did mejia suffer injuries if it is the way you say come on... I had the scanner on and several witnesses gave there version and after a party i would think some of the witnessing was a little distorted. Well maybe he hit himself in the back of the head.Maybe after he came with his friend and hit him with a bat oops he had the golf club maybe after his friend hit him with the bat is when they went chasing him and just maybe his friend ran the other way. Now i have add my perception and Think maybe this was all imaginary and they are now all friends again and cant remember who did what and Who was on 2nd. No who was on first I thought.

janesvillean i see what you are saying. its just stupid how it says the guy was hit 3 times with a baseball bat. i never saw a bat/knife the whole time. i saw a pipe wrench and a big monkey wrench. and they did hit mr.ayala to. thanks for explanation

sarac, I can believe your story and still see why the arrests happened and "the investigation continues". If Ayala actually connected with a human being but they only connected with his van, they need to get a variety of interviews before they can arrest anyone else for cause. The arrests do not necessarily reflect the ultimate extent of charges.
.
Self-defense may get him acquitted if there are sufficient witnesses. But right now somebody's got a bloody wound, and hey, look, here's a bloody golf club.

(temptanny2803)Our block has two rentals with below average people at each end. Its funny we never see any cops except at these two houses.well i live in a rental on this block and have for a few years, so i'm guessing i'm one of these below average people?? do you know me to pass that kinda of judgment i didn't think so

Im a neighbor also, and its such a waste of breath for these idiots to live on this block. Our block has two rentals with below average people at each end. Its funny we never see any cops except at these two houses. The city wants to better the look west but somehow losers keep migrating here! Guess the landlords dont do thorough checks and only worry about their money instead of the surrounding homeowners!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! They need to get their story straight here, Mr. Noe Ayala was ALONE and he had a golf club and was being chased by atleast four people with various weapons, and he swung the the golf club at mr. mejia defending himself from the group of five chasing him, he then proceeded to his van while the five men including mr. mejia followed him to and proceeded to smash out all of Mr. Noe Ayala's van windows. So, he gets in trouble for defending himself while the other group of five men get off scott free. I'm a neighbor and watched it all happen. Then proceeded to tell the story to the Janesville P.D that apparently like to switch the story around. So, don't believe this B.S story.
