A Janesville School Board development session Tuesday will help the board prepare for the next five years.

Superintendent Tom Evert says past school boards have played a very active role in development of five year plans. The workshop will feature a discussion on long-range goals for curriculum development and student learning. Evert says school board candidates also received the board's workshop resource materials and are invited to attend. There a chance of large turnover on the school board with five seats on the ballot in April.

Seriously, do any kids still walk to school? Is the school a great distance from home and that is why parents insist on driving them? Somebody, please explain this to me.

I take care of the pick up and drop off of the kids at two schools during my lunch hour. It is nearly impossible to get it done and get them home in a timely manner. There is alot of road rage. It would almost be easier if they staggered the schools start time based on grade. 7:45 - 6th, 8:00 - 7th, 8:15 - 8th.

I hope they consider more snow days so the kids don't have to be in school so late in the summer. We live in WI and it does snow frequently and sometimes we can't get around!

motherof2: I completely agree. Although I know that the plan that was "in place" was never enforced, it didn't seem to be working poorly the way it was going currently. I have to take children to three schools and I was never late. I have 45 mins to get home, pick up my kids and get back to work. I did this knowing how the route worked. There is NO WAY 500 cars can get through the way it is worked up now. I have been dropping off children at Marshall since it opened on Pontiac and I have always dropped off in the parking lot and picked up in the parking lot. Now my children can't walk anywhere there without the threat of getting hit. The streets are now congested waiting to get into the drop off lane and I feel like we are entering a police state. The first day of implementation each entrance to the parking lots was guarded by school staff. I felt like a child. And what a waste of my tax dollars. I understand they want to streamline it in some way, but a reminder to parents as to HOW it is expected to be done (not how we are all screwing it up) and a good plan as to get us all there in a timely manner might have been helpful. And I found it inconvenient that a note was sent out on Jan. 29 and they were enforcing it Jan. 30. That was not enough time for me to let them know I'd be late for work. Even with us leaving my house 10 mins early this week my daughter hasn't entered the building before 7:58 a.m. I have encountered more road rage and insults thrown out to other drivers since this has started. I pride myself on having the ability to take my kids to school. It's the one thing I promised myself and my children when I decided to be a parent. It was what was important to me. And this is making it stressful for me. I can't even drop my child off once I'm in the line and allow her to walk across the parking lot. These children are in MIDDLE SCHOOL! They are supposed to learn to be responsible but we don't rely on them to be responsible for themself entering a parking lot. We still need to hold their hands.

Maybe they could refigure the "new and improved drop off and pick up" system at Marshall Middle School. That place is a MESS and its dangerous for the kids. I am amazed that there has not been any injuries or accidents!
