Janesville man arrested after carjacking
A 34-year-old Janesville man with an extensive criminal history is facing numerous charges stemming from a weekend car-jacking incident in Beloit.
The victim told police the suspect asked for a ride but then forced his way into the back seat of her car and told her to drive. While heading for the west side of Beloit, the suspect began choking the victim and told her and her eight-year-old son to get out of the car. He then fled the scene in the car. She called police and gave a description of the car, which was spotted by a Rockton police officer a short time later.
The suspect, Darron Sims, lost control of the car in a snow bank and fled on foot but was apprehended and is being held at the Winnebago County Jail in Rockford. Rock County officials are seeking extradition. Sims is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, robbery and theft.
