Janesville Bluebirds lose in tournament
WAUKESHA An ineffective power play doomed the Janesville Bluebirds on Tuesday night.
Janesville’s high school co-op team finished 0-for-5 on the power play and lost 5-1 to Waukesha Catholic Memorial in a semifinal game of the Waukesha Holiday Tournament.
The Bluebirds (5-4) will play Kettle Moraine in the third-place game tonight.
Janesville tied the game at 1-1 in the second period on Cody Iverson’s goal, but Catholic Memorial scored twice late in the period to take a two-goal lead.
“We just couldn’t finish at the net,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “But I can’t fault our effort. Our kids played hard, but things just didn’t work out.
“And not converting on the power play hurt us. If we convert just once, it’s a different game.”
