Fourth-quarter lapse leads to Parker loss
SHEBOYGAN It was all Janesville Parker in girls basketball here Wednesday night—until the fourth quarter.
After being held to single-digit scoring in each the first three quarters, Sheboygan North broke loose for a 24-11 outburst in the final period and handed previously unbeaten Parker High a 44-37 nonconference defeat.
The Vikings, who lead the Big Eight Conference at 4-0, fell to 4-1 overall. North, coached Evansville native Susie Runaas, moved up to 4-1 after going 16-6 last season.
Parker led 18-12 at halftime and 26-20 after three quarters before being overcome by the Golden Raiders, who made 10 of 14 free throws in the final period. North had no double-figure scorers for the night, but Lizzie Free scored all six her points in the fourth quarter, and teammate Morgan Parise got all of her five.
Parker junior Danielle Flood took game honors with 12 points. Kanesha Zinn and Ashley Hartwig had eight apiece for the Vikings, who play La Crosse Logan at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Logan holiday tournament.
