Lake Mills stays perfect

Lake Mills High School’s boys basketball team had the last word on a night when Whitewater honored its former coach.


The undefeated L-Cats (7-0) pulled away in the third quarter for 56-41 victory over the Whippets in game that was played at the Whitewater Middle School, where the gymnasium was re-dedicated in honor of retired coach Ken Nehring.


Joe Klocek scored 13 of his 17 points in a 26-10 third quarter, including three three-point baskets, to give Lake Mills a 48-25 lead.


Jake Heinze added 15 points for the L-Cats. Tony Bilderbeck had 10 for Whitewater (2-4).

-- Lakeside 73, Evansville 65—Eight three-point goals in the first half were enough to help Lakeside Lutheran (4-2) hold off host Evansville (4-2) in a nonconference game.


Sam Kuehl and Riley Lauth each had three three-pointers and Jake Jarnigo added two others as the Warriors built a 46-32 lead by halftime.


Evansville outscored the visitors 20-10 in the third quarter to get back in the game, but could not get any closer than six in the final quarter.


Casey Moseley led the Blue Devils with 21 points, while Zach McDonough had 14, and Brian Lunde 11.


Kuehl finished with 21 and Jarnico had 14 for the Warriors.

Nick Melton scored a game-high 18 points, including 11 in the second half. Jay Naatz followed with 11 points. Jeremy Likwarz scored 15 points for Marshall and Christian Fay added 11 points.
