Janesville Bluebirds get road win

MADISON — The Janesville Bluebirds rallied to stop the Eastside Lakers, 5-4, in Big Eight Conference hockey at Hartmeyer Ice Arena on Tuesday.

Trailing 4-3 heading into the third period, Cody Iverson off an assist from Ron Lindgren and scored at 8 minutes, 21 seconds to tie the game. Cody Steitten scored the game-winner 23 seconds later off assists from Ron Lindgren and Owen Ahlstrom.

“We finally got some intensity in the third period,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said.

The Lakers, a Madison East/La Follette co-op, held a 3-0 lead in the second period when Sean MacDougall finally scored the Bluebirds’ first goal at 12:10. Cody Iverson followed off an assist from MacDougall at 13:49 to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Lakers scored at 16:21 but Ryan Shelton beat Lakers goalie Christian delaTorre on a breakaway to close the period.

“That was a backbreaker,” Mauermann said. “We went into the third trailing by one instead of two.’’
