Jets win fifth straight

— The Janesville Jets tripped the Traverse City North Stars, 5-3, Saturday night to increase their winning streak to five games in the North American Hockey League action before 628 fans at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.

The Jets improved to 16-10-2 and moved into second place in the North Division ahead of Traverse City, which fell to 16-11-2.

Billy Mulligan scored an unassited goal at 2:02 of the first period to get the Jets started. Zach Smoot scored on a power play at 17:55 off assists from Rui Encarnarcio and Cam Severson to give the Jets a 2-0 lead.

Gehrett Sargis scored at 8:02 of the second period off assists frm Jackson Bray and Alex Brooks to put the Jets ahead 3-0. Mike Schenfeld scored off assists from Severson and Smoot at 18:34 to put the Jets up 4-0.

Traverse City scored the first of its three goals at 1:41 of the third period. Encarnarcio answered for the Jets at 2:06 for a 5-1 lead. The North Stars scored at 6:27 and 16:14 for the final result.

The Jets will travel to Alpena for a two-game series on Jan. 2-3.
