Craig swimmers win Elkhorn Invitational
ELKHORN Alex Loftus and Spencer Mattox finished 1-2 in the 100-meter breaststroke to lead Janesville Craig’s boys swim team to the Elkhorn Invitational championship here Saturday.
Craig High won the 11-team meet with 364.5 points, while Janesville Parker was fourth with 265.
Loftus, a junior, won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.87. Mattox, a freshman, was second in 1:11.56.
“Finishing first and second in that event wrapped up the team title for us,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said. “That was a great swim for both of those guys.
“And we talked about winning this invitational the first day of practice this year. So to come out and achieve that goal, says a lot about this team. Everybody that swam today contributed to the win.”
Nick Strub was second for Craig in the 100 freestyle, and Loftus was second in the 200 individual medley.
Parker’s Caleb Sigmund finished second in the 50 freestyle.
Craig High will be hosting an Alumni meet on Dec. 26. The event will start at 10 a.m., and all former Craig High and Parker High swimmers are invited to participate.
