Craig’s Loftus cruises to victory in 200 IM
Janesville Craig’s Alex Loftus didn’t back down from the numerous top swimmers in the Cougar pool Friday.
Loftus won the 200 individual medley in an eye-opening time of 2:02.88, but the Cougars fell to Madison Memorial and Verona in a Big Eight Conference double dual boys swimming meet.
Loftus also finished second in the 100 breaststroke for the Cougars’ top two finishes of the meet. Craig is 2-2 in the Big Eight.
“Loftus had a real good swim in the IM,” said Craig coach Brian Kitzman. “That was a pleasant surprise. That probably puts him in the top three in the state right now. He was real pleased.”
Memorial, the defending state champion, also defeated Verona.
“Overall, we had a lot of best times,” Kitzman said. “This is a type of meet that sometimes a team finds it hard to get motivated. We did a good job.
“It was a loaded meet,” Kitzman said. “There were probably three future state champions here tonight. It was an unbelievable collection of talent.”
The Cougars compete today in the Elkhorn Invitational.
