JANESVILLE The Janesville Salvation Army in five weeks has raised two-thirds of its goal for the annual Red Kettle campaign, so it will take a large effort to raise the final one-third in the one week remaining, Capt. Kirk Schuetz said.
The organization this year raised its goal by $15,000, but it's $8,000 behind where it was at this time last year, Schuetz wrote in a news release.
"We clearly need a lot of help if we are going to meet our goal this year," he said in the release.
Still, the news isn't all bad. The campaign isn't laggings as far as it was last week, when it was $16,000 behind the same time last year.
As of Wednesday, the Kettle campaign had raised $202,189 of its $300,000 goal, the release says. The organization still has 20 percent of its slots open for bell ringing before Dec. 24.
Salvation Army raises 40 percent of its cash budget from the Red Kettle campaign, the release says.
