Fowlkes shoots Comets to win

Justin Fowlkes had the last word Thursday night in a Southern Lakes boys basketball thriller.

Fowlkes, 5-9 junior guard, hit a two-point shot from the free-throw line with seven seconds left in overtime to give Delavan-Darien High a 49-47 victory at Wilmot.

Mike Rawlins drilled a three-point shot for Wilmot from the corner with 22 seconds left in regulation to force a 42-42 and the overtime.

Marcus McLin, also a 5-9 junior guard, hit a three-pointer to get Delavan-Darien rolling at 45-42 in the overtime. After the Panthers tied it at 47-47, Delavan-Darien got the ball with 22 seconds left and set up Fowlkes’ winning basket.

Fowlkes also was the game leader with 17 points, and Garrett Brickner had 11 for the Comets (3-2, 1-1). Chris Nelson led Wilmot (1-6, 0-2) with 14, while teammate Grant Dull had four three-point goals in scoring 12 points.

-- Elkhorn 64, Badger 50—Elkhorn’s defending champions improved to 5-0 for the season and 3-0 in the Southern Lakes by downing visiting Lake Geneva Badger.

Skyler O’Laughlin led the Elks with 16 points, and Alex Suchy added 15.

Elkhorn raced out to an 11-point halftime lead and remained in control.

Preston Dailey of Badger (0-6, 0-3) led all scorers with 22 points.

Union Grove’s Caleb Beachem led all scorers with 22 points.
