Passerby saves Beloit heart attack victim
Podcast Episode
WCLO's Steve Benton reports a Beloit man is saved by a passerby who uses a newer version of a C.P.R. method
BELOIT A passerby, with basic knowledge of cardiac pulmonary resuscitation techniques, saved a man's life in Beloit Tuesday.
Beloit firefighter/paramedic, Scott Smith says they responded to the YMCA and found the male victim of a cardiac episode alive and alert.
He says the passerby used a newer, continuous compression respiration method of CPR rather than the older method, which involves a mouth to mouth component.
Smith says since the Beloit fire department began using the newer protocol, they're success rate for saving patients suffering cardiac arrest has increased from under 9% to over 40%.
Smith says if the passerby hadn't stepped in to help, the outcome of the incident may have been vastly different.

It's great that people aren't afraid to do the right thing. I bet the "victim" is extremely grateful!
