Parker gymnasts wins in debut of new facility
Janesville Parker’s gymnastics team christened its new facility Tuesday night with a Big Eight Conference victory.
Erika Whitson won four events, including the all-around, to lead the Vikings to a 126.475-124.60 win over the Verona/Madison Edgewood co-op team.
Parker (2-0) is using the new Multi Purpose Room for practice and home meets, and the Vikings found it to their liking.
“I just want to say to the Janesville community how thankful our program is for what they did in passing the referendum that made this possible,” Parker coach Cathy Lehmann said. “We were able to hold a meet tonight without moving around equipment, and more important, get our athletes out of here on a school night at a decent hour.
“As for the meet, I was pleased with how we competed, but there’s still room to grow as a team and plenty to improve upon.”
Whitson won the vault, balance beam and floor exercise, while Parker’s Emily Mauermann was second in four events.
