Groelle wins first as Red Hawks’ coach
Zach Groelle picked up his first win as Milton High School’s boys basketball coach Tuesday night.
Brandon Knudtson and Nate Hammon scored 12 points each, and Mitch Trewyn added 11 as the host Red Hawks pulled away for a 53-41 nonconference win over visiting Edgerton.
Knudtson made five free throws in the fourth quarter, and Hammon scored eight points in the period as Milton improved to 1-4 in Groelle’s first season.
Edgerton (1-3), which had beaten Milton three straight years, got a game-high 17 points from Zach Nelson.

-- Dodgeville 54, Evansville 51—Matt Crowley scored 19 points as the Dodgers handed the Blue Devils their first loss of the season.
Evansville (3-1) trailed by 12 after three quarters but got the deficit down to two in the fourth thanks to Dylan Erickson’s hot hand. Erickson, who finished with 16 points, made four three-point baskets in the fourth.
Casey Moseley led the Blue Devils with 17 points.

-- Lakeside 57, Shoreland 44—Zak Gatner and Jake Jarnigo took charge in the first half to give Lakeside Lutheran (2-2) a nonconference win over previously unbeaten Shoreland Lutheran (3-1).
Gartner scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half, and Jarnigo got eight of his 10, enabling the Warriors to build a 31-15 lead.

Waterford trailed by four points after three quarters but came up short. Beau Steffens led the Wolverines with 15 points. Tommy Vaccarro (13), Brent Ruschewski (12), and Brent Plantz (12) all scored in double digits for Waterford.
