WCLO's Steve Benton reports on a Republican candidate for the 45th district State Assembly

RSS

— A retired Beloit fire chief wants to apply some of his emergency preparedness skills to the state budget.

Jim Reseburg says he'll run for the 45th District Assembly seat currently held by Democrat, Chuck Benedict of Beloit.

Reseburg served on the Beloit Fire Department for 29 years, nine as the chief. Since he retired, he's run a small business, teaching emergency management practices to professionals across the country.

Reseburg says jobs are his top priority. He says as an emergency responder, he's very familiar with tactics involving mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. He says with a budget deficit of $2 billion, the legislature could learn from all four.

Benedict plans to run for re-election in the November 2010 general election but hasn't formally announced yet. Reseburg will run as a Republican and is the only official candidate at this time.
