Warhawk women win battle of ranked teams

— The 1-2 punch of Heidi Sonntag and Kelsey Hendrickson lifted UW-Whitewater's women's basketball team to victory Thursday night.

Sonntag and Hendrickson combined for 43 points, and the Warhawks used a 21-3 run late in the first half en route to a 76-71 win over UW-Stevens Point in a WIAC thriller.


Whitewater (6-1, 2-1) trailed 22-9 in the first half before going on its 21-3 run to take a 30-25 halftime lead.


The 11th-ranked Warhawks pushed the lead to double digits in the second half and were never threatened after that.


Sonntag paced Whitewater with 22 points, and Hendrickson added 21.
