Brodhead girls know how to work OT

Brodhead High's girls basketball team was forced into overtime Thursday night, but then breezed its way to victory.


The Cardinals used an 11-2 advantage in the extra period to gain 59-50 win in a key Rock Valley crossover game at McFarland.


Brodhead, defending South Division champion, kept its share of first place at 2-0 and improved to 2-1 overall. McFarland fell to 1-1 in the North and 2-3 overall.


Mariah Mohns, a 5-9 junior forward, has four three-point goals to spearhead the Cardinals, who withstood McFarland's eight three-point goals. Mohns finished with 19 points, backed by a pair of 12-point peformances from teammates Dana Lewis and Amanda Johnson.


McFarland's Kaitlynn Evesoll, the Rock North Player of the Year last season, took game honors with 23 points, including four three-pointers.

Jenna Larsen paced Parkview (3-0, 2-0), which outscored Whitewater 27-14 in the second half, with 10 points.


Jessica and Julia Shelbourn led Whitewater (1-1, 1-1) with six points each.

-- Jefferson 72, Turner 41—The host Eagles jumped all over the visiting Trojans 25-5 in the first quarter en route a Rock Valley crossover win.


Jessica Splittgerber scored 24 points, including four three-point baskets, to lead Jefferson's defending Rock North champions (2-0, 2-0).


Megan Grover led the Trojans with 16 points.

Brooke Lambrechts scored nine of her 13 points for the Trojans in the final period. Alicia Oleson was East Troy's game leader with 15, and teammate Alee Schahczinski added 11.


Maggie Schultz and Karelyn Harsevoort led Clinton with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
