A fishing show will highlight Geneva and Delavan lakes and other area attractions in an episode airing next week on The Sportsman Channel.
"Angling The Great Lakes" portrays Walworth County as a great fishing destination and family-friendly vacation spot.
In the episode, local fishing guide John Reddy of Reddy Guide Service takes men fishing on Delavan Lake. The men fish from kayaks, a new adventure for them.
"They asked me to be open minded enough to fish out of a kayak. It was my first time ever in a kayak," Reddy said. "What amazed me was how much you see from a kayak that you don't see from a boat, because you're right at the water level."
Reddy and other fishermen paddled to a portion of Delavan Lake about 25 to 35 feet deep. They fished for bass, northern pike, walleyes and crappies. They used minnows as bait.
They went out early in the morning, and they quickly caught a couple of northern pike. They caught a walleye in the afternoon.
"It was a neat experience for me," Reddy said. "It all worked out real well, and we caught some fish, too, so that was a huge bonus."
Between clips of fishing, the show highlights several tourist destinations in Walworth County.
Kathleen Seeberg, executive director of the Walworth County Visitors Bureau, said the show could help attract people to Walworth County.
"I think it's a wonderful opportunity to expose to potential visitors nationwide the breadth of what we have here," Seeberg said. "Tourism is a major factor in our county."
Hosts Brian Smith and Gary Aker Sr. highlight these tourist destinations during the show:
-- Grand Geneva Resort, including the Geneva ChopHouse restaurant, The Brute and The Highlands golf courses.
-- Yerkes Observatory, home to the largest lens-type telescope in the world.
-- The Geneva Lake mail delivery boat.
