Whitewater snowball fight does damage

— At least two windows were broken but no tickets were issued as the result of a large snowball fight on UW-Whitewater’s campus Tuesday night.

Campus police responded at about 8:30 p.m. to a snowball fight involving at least 200 people, and continued to deal with snowball fights until about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Matt Schwartz said.

Two windows were reported broken in residence halls, and there might have been a couple of other windows broken, he said.

No tickets were issued because police don’t know who broke the windows, Schwartz said.

Throwing snowballs is against the rules on campus because of the potential for damage and injury, Schwartz said.

“There’s an ordinance regarding throwing hard objects, and it specifically outlines snowballs,” he said.

Look at what I just read... looks like there's a few more people who get bent out of shape during snowball fights!

Those of us who live in snowball-deprived areas like Georgia would gladly sacrifice a few windows of college dorms to experience an occasional snowball fight. Besides, it gives the Kampus Kops something to sink their teeth into. Surprised nobody thought to organize a Gorebal Warming demonstration! Skoal, Bubba!

I bet Belushi had some "snow" ball times during his short stay at UW-Whitewater. The tradition continues.

jvldss is right. We should keep the windows in our thoughts. Their whole world has been shattered and I'm getting all glassy eyed just thinking about it.

We need to have some legislation to ban cheap and shoddily made snowballs. these "snowfall night specials" to quote Lynyrd Skynryd "ain't good for nothin', 'cept put a man six feet under snow"

Wow, what a no-fun campus! Soon they'll ban smiles and laughter as well, and perhaps make all the the students wear gray and goose-step in formation between classes!

At least UW-Madison still has a sense of humor, and has not yet declared the possession and non-medical use of snowballs to be illegal (but then again, they have yet to have a whole TWO windows possibly broken by these villainous snow-ball hooligan gang members!).

DiGriz: Actually if I am remembering correctly Buddy Elf would have taken them all down with his super fast arms full of snowballs! LOL Love that movie...
What about a law that makes it illegal for brothers and cousins to plow down your snowman (that took you awhile to build) with the sled as they come down the driveway? I could have used that one many years ago as my little heart was broken and I wanted to break their sleds!!! Ha ha

I noticed in the public record that Old Man Winter was arrested at his home on charges of running a snowball house near certain places, two counts of delivery of snowballs near certain places, party to the crime of delivery of snowballs near certain places, possession of snowball paraphernalia and possession of snowballs with intent to deliver near certain places. Glad I don't live near THAT guy!

The next thing you know, people are going to be smuggling snowballs across state lines. Probably end up selling them to our children too.

"Does anyone know if it's illegal to transport a snowball across state lines?"
.
Yes its legal, but it has to be in a locked case.
.
wait till the state passes a micro stamping law where all mittens and gloves have an embossed serial number or if the law is changed to where you can only get snowballs through a federal snowball licenced dealer.

2010 Winter Olympic officials today announced a new event for athletes to particpate in. Drive by snowballing. There are some garment restrictions however, athletes cannot wear low hanging multicolored pants that bag over their behinds for fear that some of these folks could conceal additional snowballs that could lead to higher scores.

If you have the means to deliver the snow, then you can create and carry. Seems feasible. Hard to throw a snowball far enough hard enough that is very large. There can be a snowballocracy, I just know it.

DiGriz - Where do you draw the line? Surely you don't think people should be able to carry multiple snowballs, or posses huge snowballs that could crush someone. What about snowballs with rocks inside? Should mentally ill people be allowed to have snowballs at all?
