WCLO's Steve Benton reports Rock County snowmobile trails can't be groomed because of standing corn in fields.
ROCK COUNTY Mother nature is providing a great snow base for snowmobile trails in Rock County. Too bad most of the trails can't be used because of another issue with mother nature, standing corn.
Rock County's U.W. Extension soils and crops agent, Jim Stute, says about 25% of the county's corn crop remains in the fields. Trail coordinator for the Rock County Snowmobile Alliance, Levi Olson says 90% of the county's snowmobile trails run through farm fields which contain standing corn.
Olson says some of the trails can be altered by using road rights of way, but that process takes time.
