If you're looking for outdoor entertainment on these snowy days, family-friendly activities go beyond building traditional snowmen.

Angie Flickinger with Rock County's UW-Extension office says students seem to have their outdoor play time cut back at schools. Although these cuts haven't necessarily been seen at Rock County schools, Flickinger says snow days present an opportunity for outdoor fun.

Here are some ideas to keep kids active and entertained on snow days:

-Create a Snow-Pile Olympics Push snow into hurdles and obstacles. Have a challenge to see who can throw a snowball the furthest.

-Make ice sculptures Fill old containers with water and set them outside to freeze. Use hot water to remove the ice from the containers and start sculpting.

-Use the snow as a canvas Snow-paint is available in stores as a way to get colorful with all the white space.

-Make a scavenger hunt Bury items in the snow and see who can find them the fastest.
