WCLO's Steve Benton reports Milton and Edgerton firefighters respond to smoke at the United Ethanol plant in Milton
MILTON United Ethanol officials say there was no damage after smoldering corn was discovered by employees Monday morning.
Plant spokesperson, Dori Lichty, says wet corn in a storage bin got hot through the natural process of spontaneous combustion, but didn't actually catch fire.
Milton and Edgerton firefighters responded to the call around 6 am Monday. They poured some water on the corn to cool it down and returned to their stations.
Lichty says no equipment was damaged, no employees were hurt, and there was no danger to the public.

So wet corn got hot and started smoking and the solution was to pour MORE water on it? Think I am missing something here..
Also, where did the corn get the smokes from?! Time for another cigarette sweep at the gas stations?
