— A Lake Geneva man was arrested after a fire and stabbing incident Saturday night.

Damen Leroy, 31, was arrested in connection with the fire and stabbing, according to a news release from the Delavan Police Department.

Delavan police and fire officials responded to an apartment fire at 353 Tyrrell Court at 10:52 p.m. On arrival, police found Arthur Johnsen, 47, in the lobby with lacerations to his neck. Heavy smoke was coming from the second and third floors.

Johnsen was transported to Mercy Hospital, Janesville, and was listed in good condition, the release says. A Mercy spokeswoman confirmed Johnsen was a patient there but didn’t know his condition Sunday night.

The Delavan Fire Department confined the fire to Johnsen's second-floor apartment, and the building sustained moderate smoke damage, the release says.

About 40 residents, many of them elderly, were assisted out of the building and displaced for about two hours, the release says. No resident besides Johnsen was injured.

A spokesman at the Delavan Police Department said further information, including a motive for the incident, wouldn’t be available until today at the earliest.
