Panoske fuels Brodhead's victory
J.J. Panoske put on a dominating performance, but Brodhead High's boys basketball team needed a strong second half to win its Rock Valley Conference opener Thursday night.
Panoske, a 6-9 junior, led way with 33 points as the host Cardinals pulled away to a 73-58 victory over Clinton.
The defending Rock Valley South champions got 10-point quarters from Panoske in the first and fourth, but his nine-point third period sparked the victory. Brodhead (1-1) rolled to a 20-9 advantage during that stretch in pulling away from a 26-25 halftime edge.
Carson Scheidegger and Jacob Cole, the Cardinal guards, backed up Panoske with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Ross Oldenburg and Cody Risseeuw each scored 12 points for Clinton (1-2).

Big Foot trailed by six at half but outscored Turner 28-14 in the second half.
Alec McGreevy led the Chiefs with 20 points, and Nathan Nagel added 16.
Turner's Jordan Conway led all scorers with 24 points, but the Trojans fell to 1-1 for the season.

Tony Bilderback led the Whippets (0-2) with 13 points.
