UW-Fox Valley sweeps UW-Rock squads

UW-Rock County’s second-half rally was not enough to overcome a miserable first half in a 74-66 loss to host UW-Fox Valley in men’s Wisconsin Collegiate Conference basketball Wednesday.

The Rattlers (5-4, 3-1) trailed 12-0 and 24-6 in the first half, but cut the deficit to 33-23 by halftime. The Rattlers’ cut the deficit to one point on two occasions in the second half but could not get past Fox Valley.

Corey Kramer, who was held scoreless in the first half got rolling in the second half to score 16 points. Fred Stewart finished with a team-high 17 points before fouling out.

UW-Rock will travel to UW-Barron in Rice Lake on Saturday.

UW-Rock women fall

The UW-Rock County wilted under a barrage of 10 three-point baskets en route to a 63-40 loss to host UW-Fox Valley in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference women’s basketball on Wednesday.

The Rattlers (2-5, 2-4) trailed 36-27 at the half and did not threaten in the second half. Fox Valley shot 56 percent (10 for 19) from beyond the arc.

Ashley Oldenberg, an Orfordville Parkview High graduate, scored 13 points. Tiffany Draeving added 11 points and Donyelle Bridges and Belinda Quillman scored 10 points each.

UW-Rock will travel to UW-Fox Valley Technical College next Wednesday.
