Beloit Snappers earn split with Bees

BELOIT — Danny Berlind allowed only four hits to help the Beloit Snappers gain a 2-1 victory over the Burlington Bees in seven innings and the split of a Midwest League baseball doubleheader here Sunday.

Before a crowd 1,803 on Kyle Weaver bobblehead day, the Snappers dropped the opener, 8-5, getting stopped on four hits, while surrendering 14.

In Game 2, Beloit got the winning run in the third inning when Dominic De La Osa scored from third base on a wild pitch to break a 1-1 tie. De La Osa got a leadoff double and was sacrificed to third.

Berlind improved to 4-13 for the season. Steve Blevins earned his third save by retiring the Bees in order in the seveth.

In the opener, Beloit starter Winston Marquez (0-2) allowed five runs on eight hits in four innings. Reliever Brad Stillings got tagged for three runs on six hits, including a two-run home run, through two innings.
