Brodhead/Juda rushes past Mayville; Big Foot, Parkview win

Brodhead/Juda put its ground game into high-gear and blasted Mayville, 40-13, in a nonconference football opener Friday.

The Cardinals gained 297 of their 436 yards rushing in the first half. Brodhead-Juda’s Ethan Douglas topped all ground-gainers, collecting 192 yards on 14 carries, all in the first half.

Douglas posted a 70-yard touchdown run to open the scoring, and added a six-yard TD run to put the Cards ahead 13-0.

After Michael Peterson caught an 11-yard pass from David Earleywine, Brayden Fritsch added touchdown runs of 40 and 4 yards to give Brodhead-Juda a 34-6 lead at the half.

Fritsch broke loose for a 58-yard TD run to close the game. Fritsch finished with 135 yards on 11 carries.

n Big Foot 48, Harvard, Ill. 7—Big Foot, last year’s WIAA Division 4 state runner-up, hit Harvard with a 27-point second quarter and rolled its 20th straight regular-season win in a nonconference opener at Walworth.

Michael Walker rushed 16 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns to spark the Chiefs, who broke up a scoreless game in their big second quarter and were up 41-0 after three periods.

Big Foot drove 80 yards for its first touchdown, which came on Steve Dowden’s 15-yard pass to Jordan Gottman with nine minutes left in the second quarter. The Chiefs then converted three Harvard fumbles into touchdowns to complete the 27-point period.

Gottman finished with two touchdowns, and Dowden passed for three.

n Parkview 49, Boscobel 13—Senior quarterback Nick Melton scored on a 71-yard run on the game’s first play from scrimmage for one of his three touchdowns as the Vikings won a nonconference opener at Orfordville.

Melton also returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown, scored on a 26-yard run and threw two touchdown passes.

Jamie Wichser had four receptions for 65 yards, including a 22-yard scoring pass. P.J. Kyser added three catches for 67 yards and scored on a 16-yard Melton pass.

n Lake Mills 14, Palmyra-Eagle 13—The L-Cats scored two touchdowns on pass plays of 65 and 26 yards in the final five minutes after a 75-minute weather delay to win a nonconference opener.

On the first play after the restart, Nick Dunkleberger connected with Tim Haumschild on a 65-yard touchdown play.

On the ensuing series, Lake Mills recovered a Palmyra-Eagle at the Panthers’s 45 and three plays later Dunkleberger and Haumschild connected on a 26-yard touchdown pass play and Dunkelberger kicked the extra point for the victory.

n North Boone 28, Clinton 12—Most of the action took place in a 21-12 first quarter as North Boone of Poplar Grove, Ill., won a nonconference opener Friday night at Clinton.

Alex Albrecht returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, and North Boone went on to a nine-point lead after the first 12 minutes.

Sophomore quarterback Aaron Roth hit Gavin North with a 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter for Clinton’s offensive highlight. Jordan Holmbeck also scored for the Cougars on a 4-yard run in the first quarter.

North Boone rushed for 199 yards on 27 carries to Clinton’s 78 on 40 carries.
