— Police are asking residents to be on the lookout after several vandalism incidents at city parks.

The police and public works department have noticed an unusually high number of vandalism complaints in parks this year, according to a news release from Chief Jerry Schuetz.

Last week, someone broke into Central Park and stole several hundred dollars' worth of tennis balls, the release says.

The police have deployed an intern on bike patrol to try to catch the vandals. Continued vandalism might make the city change park hours, the release says.

The department asks residents to report any suspicious behavior in or around the parks or any knowledge of the vandalism to the Rock County Communications Center at (608) 757-2244 or Janesville/Milton Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 756-3636. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

The sad thing is I believe the Milton Police Department is closed at night so if you do call you have to wait for rock county to show up, and by then the little brats are gone.

Several hundred dollars worth of tennis balls??? Aren't they roughly $1/ball (3 in a can at wally world for $3??) ??

Not that I condone vandalism, but that's pretty impressive (400-500 balls?)

Maybe they will bounce this out of court.

When they catch the people responsible (more than likely kids), maybe a good old fashion whippin with a switch in the middle of the park so EVERYONE can see may be a good punishment.

An argument for the need for school and the need for summer programs for the youth.
