Fort Atkinson Generals move into title series

— Dan Allard kept the Home Talent League baseball season alive for the Fort Atkinson Generals on Sunday.

Allard’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a three-run rally as the Generals slipped past the Jefferson Blue Devils, 5-3.


Fort Atkinson (26-6) advances to the championship series where it will host Cross Plains (15-4) next Sunday in the first game of the three-game round robin series. Monona (18-2) and Verona (16-2) will meet in the other round-robin game Sunday afternoon. The Generals will play at Monona on Sept. 6, and at Verona at Sept. 13.


Jefferson (19-16) jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to an unearned run in the second inning, and Dan Doebereiner’s two-run single in the third.


Fort Atkinson pulled within one with single runs in the fifth and seventh before rallying for three runs in the eighth. Two General runs scored on wild pitches in the eighth.


Rick Klotz came on in the sixth for the Generals and picked up the the win.


Tom Klug, despite going the distance, suffered the loss. Klug allowed only five hits, but the defense behind him committed three errors.
