Pen gives Beloit Snappers relief

— A three-run third inning and 43 innings of scoreless relief pitching carried the Beloit Snappers to a 5-1 win over visiting Kane County in Midwest League action Thursday night.

Bruce Pugh started and struck out eight, but could not get the final out in the fifth inning to earn the victory. Thomas Wright replaced Pugh and earned the win with 23 innings of shutout pitching.

Ramon Santana hit his ninth homer of the season for the Snappers in the first inning to tie the score at 1-1.

Aaron Hicks and Danny Rams had RBI singles and a double steal during which James Beresford stole home accounted for the Snappers’ three-run third.

Another double steal scored Aaron Hicks for the Snappers’ final run in the seventh.

The two teams play at 7 p.m. today. It is mustache night, and there will be a fireworks display after the game.
